It's amazing how an animal can transform the lives of a family. They provide milk to help feed parents and children and mineral rich manure to feed the soil where they grow their crops.
And by helping people learn to care for their livestock well and to breed them successfully, the positive social and economic impact each individual animal makes is multiplied many times over.
Send a Cow gave Beatrice Olum her goat - which she has named Judy. Judy soon gave birth to a kid, Grace and started producing three litres of milk every day. For Beatrice, who lives in Uganda, this meant a better diet for her children, and enough milk spare to give away to her neighbour's malnourished son.
Judy's manure is also helping to improve the soil in Beatrice's maize bed - and her crop yield has soared. So much so, that thanks to the money she's earned from milk and maize sales, Beatrice has been able to replace the worn out roof of her home. She says happily,
